Saab National - Keswick 2004

Purple 96

The best Saab at Keswick - in my opinion

The Saab Owners Club National Meeting: June 2004

Greetings from Keswick

This event was the best in my memory for mud and puddle play! I checked out alternative childrens’ activities and found some brilliant craft events in the Club House which kept me out of mischief for a few hours (and out of the rain). Ashley preferred to set up a badge stall and was given lots of handy advice for young entrepreneurs ..

I had been looking forward to the dancing element of the event (always the most important part of the Saab Owners’ Club meetings). I wasn’t quite sure about the style at this one (it didn’t seem to fit in with my ballet training). After weighing it up for about 10 dances, I decided I would have a go. I needed a partner. Dad I thought. But he turned me down! So it had to be Mum which caused great confusion in our set but we got to the end of it thanks to the more experienced celidah dancers.

Next year I hope to be a fairy again and that the meeting can be within amateur caravan reach of Norfolk! Dad would also then be allowed to bring his 95 Estate 7 seater ...

I was asked by a non-official to judge the concours competition and I chose the 96 in the photo as the best overall winner of all categories. Nothing to do with the colour of course ..

We bumped into Tom Meade with his excellent red 99 Turbo, Jonathan and family from Wales and caught a fleeting glimpse of the Englishes!

Ashley delegated me the task of gift-tagging* all the Saabs this year and I have continued to tag every Saab I come across in the car parks of Norwich and the surrounding region.

We hope to see you all at the Saab Enthusiasts Autumn Gathering near Thetford in Norfolk 2-4 September 2005 - from which I shall be reporting.

Emma Hagstrom

* Gift tag: Ashley's word for a slip of paper giving Hagstrom Saab's details which he places under the off side windscreen wiper of every stationary Saab he notices.
