Petrol £6 a gallon...? But apparently it’s on the cards

Back in the Saddle ..

 Matt

Well it’s now 2004; God where does the time go and, after what seems like an age driving a “Volkswagen golf” of all things, I’m finally getting my hands on another Classic 900....

It’s funny to think that occasionally I will sample the offspring of other marques but like so many of you, I just can’t help loving the old 900’s.

The golf has been troublesome but moderately reliable I suppose and I can’t wait to see the back of it. It’s replacement is a blue 4-door 900 on an A plate with certain modifications, naturally, but it’s only got a 4-speed box!!! So slotting a 5-speed in there is a job for later.

Tom is already pestering me to stick a Turbo 16 lump in it but I can’t really see the point. I’m not the same person as ten years ago and my need for speed has all but evaporated. It’s amazing what “9” penalty points on your licence will do to your driving technique!

So, no, I don’t feel the need for another car that bares the badges declaring to the world that it’s a Saab Turbo nutter (as my blue 5-door Turbo did).

What I can say is, people change. Other people stay the same. Take Tom, for instance. He still drives badly, he still rambles on without drawing breathe about all things Saab-related, he still moans about the system of government and he still does work for countless people that undercuts practically everyone price and quality-wise!

Good to know, when, as the song goes, I’m back in the saddle again!

Happy Saabing!
