Petrol £6 a gallon...? But apparently itís on the cards

Back in the Saddle ..

 Matt

Well itís now 2004; God where does the time go and, after what seems like an age driving a ďVolkswagen golfĒ of all things, Iím finally getting my hands on another Classic 900....

Itís funny to think that occasionally I will sample the offspring of other marques but like so many of you, I just canít help loving the old 900ís.

The golf has been troublesome but moderately reliable I suppose and I canít wait to see the back of it. Itís replacement is a blue 4-door 900 on an A plate with certain modifications, naturally, but itís only got a 4-speed box!!! So slotting a 5-speed in there is a job for later.

Tom is already pestering me to stick a Turbo 16 lump in it but I canít really see the point. Iím not the same person as ten years ago and my need for speed has all but evaporated. Itís amazing what ď9Ē penalty points on your licence will do to your driving technique!

So, no, I donít feel the need for another car that bares the badges declaring to the world that itís a Saab Turbo nutter (as my blue 5-door Turbo did).

What I can say is, people change. Other people stay the same. Take Tom, for instance. He still drives badly, he still rambles on without drawing breathe about all things Saab-related, he still moans about the system of government and he still does work for countless people that undercuts practically everyone price and quality-wise!

Good to know, when, as the song goes, Iím back in the saddle again!

Happy Saabing!
